What is hms cadiz?

HMS Cadiz was a British Royal Navy cruiser that served during World War II. It was named after the Spanish port city of Cádiz and was part of the Edinburgh-class cruiser group. The ship was commissioned in 1941 and served mainly in the Mediterranean theater of operations, escorting convoys and providing support for Allied landings.

On January 16, 1943, HMS Cadiz was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-407 while escorting a convoy from North Africa to Malta. The ship suffered heavy damage, and 51 crew members were killed. Despite being hit by two torpedoes, the crew managed to keep the ship afloat and eventually returned it to Gibraltar for repairs.

After repairs were completed, HMS Cadiz returned to active service and played a crucial role in the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943. The ship also participated in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and provided support for Allied operations in the Adriatic Sea.

HMS Cadiz was decommissioned in 1946 and eventually scrapped in 1959.
